Seth Teal was born on a Federation colony world along the outer frontier, where access to advanced medical facilities was often limited. His mother worked as a civilian biologist, while his father served as a transport pilot supporting relief and resupply missions across the sector. A severe epidemic struck the colony when Seth was a teenager, and he witnessed first-hand the work of Starfleet Medical crisis teams who stabilized the outbreak. The experience left a lasting impression — not only the science behind medicine, but the calm professionalism of the Starfleet physicians who saved lives in the midst of chaos. From that point forward, Seth pursued medicine with single-minded focus. He enrolled in Starfleet Academy on the Medical Track, completing core science and operations training before transferring to Starfleet Medical for his formal clinical education. Seth completed his medical residency at Starfleet Medical on Earth, followed by a frontier medicine fellowship focused on deep-space deployment environments. His first operational assignments placed him aboard smaller vessels and outposts where he often served as one of only a few fully-qualified physicians.
